Zach Wilson will be on the sidelines as the New York Jets make a quarterback change for their “Black Friday” matchup against the Miami Dolphins in Week 12. Head coach Robert Saleh confirmed on Monday that veteran Tim Boyle will take the starting quarterback position, with Wilson demoted to the third string behind backup Trevor Siemian.

Saleh explained the decision to start Boyle over Wilson, stating, “Just to give him an opportunity, different style of quarterback. So really it’s just to give him an opportunity to see if we can do something with the offense.” This move suggests a strategic shift in the quarterback lineup for the Jets in the upcoming game.

This decision by head coach Robert Saleh, who had previously been steadfast in his support of Wilson as his starter, comes after he pulled Wilson in the closing minutes of the third quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills. New York’s offense has struggled mightily with Wilson under center and Sunday’s loss was no exception. The team managed a lone touchdown drive with Wilson at the helm, which was sparked, in part, because of a fake punt pass.  the New York Jets

Zach Wilson’s recent performance left much to be desired, prompting his removal from the game. Before being pulled, Wilson completed 7 of 15 passes for 81 yards, resulting in a 57.9 passer rating. These figures marked season lows for the quarterback in completions, attempts, and passing yards. Notably, in the 23 dropbacks during the game, Wilson failed to connect on a pass to a wide receiver.

The Jets’ struggles extended beyond Wilson’s individual performance, with the team going 0-11 on third down in Week 11. This added to their existing NFL-worst statistics in this crucial category. The team’s offensive challenges were further underscored by tying their season-low for points and enduring a three-game losing streak where they were outscored 75-24, leaving them two games below .500.
