The Stanley Tumbler trend

The Stanley Tumbler trend may be losing steam, despite its recent surge in popularity. These mugs seem to be ubiquitous, appearing on TikTok, at retail giants like Target and Starbucks, and in the hands of people everywhere.

The drinkware became such a sensation that it became a go-to holiday gift, particularly among Gen Z, as observed by trend forecasters who pored over hours of Christmas haul TikToks. Amazon search data further confirms the craze, with the insulated 40-oz Stanley Quencher Tumbler, complete with a side handle and straw, ranking as one of the top-searched products during the holiday season.

However, despite the widespread presence of Stanley Tumblers as Christmas presents, Casey Lewis, a youth consumer trends analyst and author of the newsletter After School, suggests that the excitement around them may already be on the decline.

“They are absolutely on their way out. This is peak Stanley,” she proclaimed. “There’s no up from here!”

Lewis expressed her lack of surprise regarding the popularity of the Stanley cup as a gift but was taken aback by the “fervor a water bottle caused, especially among tweens.” The Stanley Tumbler trend

“When I was 11, I asked for dolls. Today’s 11-year-olds asked for Stanley tumblers,” she quipped. “Seeing Gen Alpha kids sobbing over water bottles is pretty surprising. At least the kids are hydrating!”

Lewis noted that most recipients of Stanley cups as gifts were college-age and younger. However, she anticipates the appeal diminishing as the trend runs its course.

“In my experience, most trends start with cool youth, and then once they trickle down (to younger kids) and up (to adults), the cool youth move on,” she explained. “When young kids and tweens adopt a trend or product, teens and older Gen Z distance themselves.”
