Ford (F) is issuing a recall for almost 113,000 of its F-150 pickup trucks due to a faulty rear axle hub bolt, as reported by federal regulators.

The recall specifically affects 112,965 of Ford’s 2021-2023 F-150 vehicles equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and a 9.75-inch heavy-duty axle featuring a 3/4 float axle design.

The recall is prompted by concerns that the rear axle hub bolt in these vehicles may experience fatigue and breakage, leading to potential damage to the axle hub splines, as highlighted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA has warned that damaged axle hub splines resulting from the defective rear axle hub bolt could lead to a vehicle rolling away when in park without the parking brake engaged, or it may cause a loss of drive power. Both scenarios increase the risk of a potential crash. a recall for almost

Ford has mentioned that a solution for the faulty component is currently in development. However, F-150 owners can visit a dealership for an interim fix if they notice any clicking or rattling noises.

Letters notifying owners of the recall are expected to be mailed by January 24.

This recall follows a previous one in July, where Ford recalled over 870,000 F-150 pickup trucks due to issues with the electric parking brakes that could unexpectedly engage.
