Jonathan Majors was convicted Monday of assaulting his former girlfriend after a trial that he hoped would vindicate him and restore his status as an emerging Hollywood star. It did just the opposite: Marvel Studios and the Walt Disney Co. dropped him hours after the verdict.
A Manhattan jury has found a person named Majors, aged 34, guilty of one misdemeanor assault charge and one harassment violation related to a March altercation with his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Jabbari accused Majors of assaulting her in a car, causing significant pain, while Majors’ defense argued that Jabbari was the aggressor. Majors, who was acquitted of a different assault charge and aggravated harassment, displayed no immediate reaction as the verdict was announced. He chose not to comment as he left the courthouse.
In response to the verdict, Majors’ lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, released a statement expressing that Majors “still has faith in the process and looks forward to fully clearing his name.” Chaudhry acknowledged the conviction on one assault charge involving reckless injury but emphasized gratitude for the acquittal on the other assault count related to intentional injury. She conveyed Majors’ appreciation for the support from God, his family, friends, and fans during the challenging eight months. Majors was convicted
Following the conviction, Marvel and Disney promptly removed the “Creed III” star from all upcoming projects, according to an anonymous source close to the studio. The decision was made public on the condition of anonymity as the person wasn’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
