welcoming Ukrainian President

President Joe Biden has announced he is welcoming Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a meeting at the White House on Tuesday, December 12.

According to a statement released by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the upcoming meeting is poised to emphasize the United States’ “unshakable commitment” to backing the people of Ukraine in their efforts to protect themselves amid Russia’s aggressive invasion.

“As Russia intensifies its missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, the leaders will address the pressing needs of Ukraine and underscore the crucial significance of ongoing support from the United States during this pivotal moment,” announced Jean-Pierre.

In the press conference, Singh emphasized that providing additional assistance to Ukraine would constitute a “smart investment” in U.S. national security. She argued that such support would act as a preventive measure against the escalation of a “larger war in Europe” while simultaneously bolstering the domestic defense industrial base and generating skilled job opportunities for the American people.

Senate Republicans, on Wednesday, obstructed the allocation of billions of dollars in additional security aid to various regions, including Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific with a focus on Taiwan. The Republican opposition signaled a desire for President Biden to prioritize more stringent measures at the U.S.-Mexico border instead.

President Biden has formally requested nearly $106 billion from Congress to finance ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Israel, as well as address other critical security needs. The administration has conveyed grave warnings about potential severe consequences for Kyiv and framed any delay or denial of this funding as a potential advantage or “gift” to Russia’s Vladimir Putin. The urgency underscores the administration’s emphasis on the importance of immediate and robust support for strategic international endeavors.

According to records, the United States has spent more than $44 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since Russia invaded in February 2022.
