Los Angeles authorities grappling with a long-standing homelessness crisis, issued a stark warning on Friday, urging “unhoused” individuals to seek shelter amid concerns of a serial killer targeting people sleeping alone outdoors.

The alarming announcement follows a series of three shooting murders that occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. The victims were found in different locations—one on a couch in an alley, another sleeping on a sidewalk, and a third pushing a shopping cart near an exterior power outlet. In all three cases, a lone suspect approached, opened fire, and then walked away. Authorities released a surveillance image of a potential suspect vehicle in connection with these incidents.

The urgency of the situation prompted authorities to encourage those experiencing homelessness to seek refuge and safety indoors. The fear of a serial killer targeting individuals sleeping alone outdoors has heightened concerns for the vulnerable population, and efforts are underway to address the crisis and apprehend the suspect responsible for these heinous crimes. The city’s police chief, Michel Moore, described the suspect only as a lone individual believed to be male, wearing a hoodie and other simple clothing. There are no known eyewitnesses. He said that it’s still early in the investigation, but detectives believe the same person committed all three murders.
