The nominations for the 2023 Game Awards, which recognize the best games and creators of the year in the gaming industry, have been unveiled.
Two highly anticipated sequels, namely the survival-horror title Alan Wake 2 from Remedy Entertainment and the role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios, lead the nominations with eight each. Both games, including others, are contending for the prestigious Game of the Year award. The remaining four titles competing for Game of the Year are also part of well-established franchises: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games, Resident Evil 4 from Capcom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder from Nintendo, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, also from Nintendo.
In this year’s nominations for Best Adaptation, a category introduced last year, the recognized films and series include:

2. “Gran Turismo” (Sony Pictures)
3. “The Last of Us” (HBO)
4. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (Illumination/Universal Pictures)
5. “Twisted Metal” (Peacock) the best games
Nintendo is the Game Awards’ most nominated publisher in 2023 with 15 nominations across its combined portfolio, followed by Sony Interactive Entertainment/PlayStation with 13, Xbox (inclusive of Bethesda and Blizzard) with 10 and Epic Games with nine.
The 2023 Game Awards have a broad representation, spanning 112 different games, individuals, teams, and events across various genres and platforms. The nominees are chosen by a global jury comprising individuals from over 100 media publications and influencer outlets.
The 10th annual Game Awards show is scheduled to stream live from the Peacock Theater (formerly Microsoft Theater) in L.A. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023. The broadcast will be available on over 30 platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, TikTok Live, and X (formerly Twitter). Alongside announcing the winners, the event will showcase premier announcements, trailers, live music performances, and celebrity appearances.
Until December 6 at 6 p.m. PT, fans have the opportunity to contribute to the selection of winners in all categories through online voting on thegameawards.com. Additionally, fans can cast their votes on the Game Awards nominees via the award show’s official Discord server. They can also participate in a live watch party on Dec. 7 and react to the winners in real time.
The executive producers of The Game Awards are Geoff Keighley and Kimmie Kim, with LeRoy Bennett serving as creative director and Richard Preuss as the director of the event.
