A See Candies store

A See Candies store situated in the Embarcadero Center in Downtown San Francisco is set to close its doors on Sunday, as confirmed by an employee. Workers from this location will be transferred to the nearby store at 542 Market St. This closure reduces the number of See’s Candies locations in San Francisco to three, with remaining stores at 754 Clement St. in the Richmond District and at the Stonestown Galleria mall. The company also operates a holiday pop-up location at the Fairmont Hotel.

See’s Candies did not provide a comment on the reason behind the closure. The Embarcadero Center is grappling with a larger vacancy challenge, reflecting the broader changes in office work patterns due to the pandemic, leading to the closure of several retail businesses in the Financial District.

Earlier this year, Banana Republic shut down its Embarcadero Center location as part of a broader pullback by parent company Gap Inc. To address vacancies, the Embarcadero Center has participated in the city-funded Vacant to Vibrant program, transforming empty spaces into temporary pop-up retail locations. A See Candies store
