Sharon Osbourne is cautioning

Sharon Osbourne is cautioning people about the consequences of weight loss resulting from her use of the medication semaglutide, which has caused her weight to drop to less than 100 pounds. The 71-year-old revealed that she began taking the FDA-approved type 2 diabetes medication Ozempic, used off-label for weight loss, in December. Osbourne warned against administering it to teenagers due to its potential for addiction.

Expressing concern about her own drastic weight loss of 42 pounds, Osbourne stated, “I’ve been off it for a while now, but my warning is don’t give it to teenagers, it’s just too easy.” She acknowledged her appearance, stating, “I know I look gaunt … I’m too gaunt and I can’t put any weight on. I want to, because I feel I’m too skinny. I’m under 100 pounds and I don’t want to be.”

Osbourne’s experience echoes that of Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi from Shahs of Sunset, who, in June, shared concerns about losing more weight than expected on semaglutide shots. Gharachedaghi reduced her dosage to maintain weight rather than continue losing. Osbourne, however, mentioned being completely off the medication without specifying for how long. Dr. Priya Jaisinghani, an obesity medicine specialist, emphasizes the medication’s goal to address weight-related complications but highlights the importance of determining a safe rate of weight loss with a healthcare provider. Rapid weight loss can lead to health issues, and when stopping any weight loss intervention, there is a risk of regaining weight, necessitating lifestyle changes alongside medication.

Osbourne, candid about her use of semaglutide, acknowledges the stigma but emphasizes her commitment to honesty about herself. “I try to be as truthful about myself as possible. I am what I am,” she said.
