BlizzCon has concluded , giving Blizzard fans a glimpse of what’s in store for the studio’s lineup of games. While Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft generated a lot of anticipation, the global gaming community was also eager to learn about Blizzard’s plans for Diablo 4.
During the opening ceremony of BlizzCon, Blizzard did not disappoint, unveiling an entirely new expansion set to launch in 2024, known as “Vessel of Hatred.” This announcement has piqued the interest of fans and has set the stage for the future of the Diablo franchise.
Diablo’s been an interesting place since its launch earlier this year. Two seasons of content have hit the game since launch; the first landed flat, while the second is trending upward positively, garnering great feedback all around. BlizzCon has concluded
BlizzCon seemed like the perfect opportunity to ride the hype following the Season of Blood’s infusion of goodwill. The Diablo 4 developers held a live campfire chat to discuss what’s coming to the maligned title, yet fans were quick to point out that the chat turned into “we’re not ready to share.”
The BlizzCon segment did cover several plans, including the announcement of the Midwinter Blight seasonal event set for December and the introduction of weekly leaderboards in the upcoming season, scheduled to launch in January.
However, for many fans, these announcements fell short of their expectations. Some expressed disappointment, feeling that the segment was lacking in substantial information and appeared to be a waste of their time. One fan even commented, “Yea, it was a lot of nothing. Mostly a waste of time to watch/listen. Even the wow team gave more information about 3 expansions from now, than the d4 team gave away information about an expansion next year. But they had an hour to fill, so they did with the corporate waste of words.” It appears that some fans were hoping for more substantial updates and insights into the future of the game.
