For the first time since 2019, BlizzCon has returned to its traditional form. While Blizzard’s convention held an online ceremony in 2021, it has not been hosted as an in-person event since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. That changed today with the 2023 edition, which saw fans returning to the Anaheim Convention Center to get all the news on the studio’s games.
The BlizzCon event began with an Opening Ceremony that provided players with updates on several significant titles, including Overwatch 2, World of Warcraft, and more. This year’s event held particular importance for Blizzard, as it occurred shortly after Microsoft’s acquisition of the company. Consequently, all eyes were on the BlizzCon stage.
Blizzard didn’t disappoint and delivered a host of exciting announcements. Among them, they revealed an ambitious new DLC plan for World of Warcraft, showcased new DLC for Diablo 4, and even featured a cameo appearance from Xbox head, Phil Spencer. The event was lengthy and brimming with details, but we’ve compiled all the highlights for you right here. For the first time
World of Warcraft fans can look forward to a substantial story update. Chris Metzen, a veteran of Blizzard, unveiled an ambitious content plan called the Worldsoul Saga, which is set to span three expansions. During the opening ceremony, Blizzard teased not just one but all three of these expansions.
The first expansion, titled “The War Within,” will see players delving into a subterranean kingdom. Following that, “Midnight” will take players back to Quel’Thalas.
