Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Michigan, reiterated her stance on the situation in the Gaza Strip, despite earlier reports being debunked by Israeli and U.S. intelligence. She expressed support for an independent investigation, citing doubts raised by media outlets and third-party analysts regarding both Israeli and Gaza Ministry of Health claims. Furthermore, she pointed to historical instances where both the Israeli and U.S. governments had been accused of misleading the public in the context of wars and war crimes, such as the assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh and the claims of weapons of mass destruction leading to the Iraq War. Last week, Tlaib swiftly criticized Israel in response to initial reports of an Israeli airstrike that allegedly resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Palestinian civilians at a Gaza hospital.
