Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Rizwan expressed that his team received an outpouring of affection from an adoring crowd in Hyderabad as they secured a six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka.

The nearly full-capacity crowd at the Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Erupted in cheers for Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam as he stepped onto the field. They continued to cheer for Mohammad Rizwan as he skillfully guided his team to victory with a tenacious century.

“The way the crowd showered us with love, we felt like we were [playing] at home,” Rizwan joyfully conveyed to reporters after the match on Tuesday.

For nearly two weeks, Pakistan has been based in South India. where they received a warm welcome, with large crowds gathering at the airport to greet the team from across the border.

“The way people welcomed us at the airport and then chanted for us while we were on the ground. It left us speechless. The Pakistani wicket-keeper batter remarked when asked about the reception his team received. “We have developed a bond of love with the people here.”

“With the crowd so close to the pitch and cheering so loudly, I felt like I was playing in Pindi,” Rizwan chuckled, alluding to the intimate cricket stadium in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

Rizwan stepped up to the crease after his team lost their captain and star batsman in the eighth over while chasing a target of 345 runs. He proceeded to forge a formidable 176-run partnership with opening batsman Abdullah Shafique. And ultimately sealed the victory for his team with 10 balls to spare.

The 31-year-old accumulated 131 runs from 121 balls during his innings, despite battling cramps. Notably, this marked his highest score in a one-day international (ODI) match. Although he fell just short of the expectations set by the local ground staff.
