Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, and his trusted associate, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, have been designated as the “primary defendants” in a case concerning the purported disclosure of classified government information, according to a recent report on Sunday. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) submitted an official charge sheet against Imran and Qureshi accused in Cipher case to a specialized court established under the Official Secrets Act, formally identifying Khan and Qureshi as the main individuals accused in the matter.
At present, both individuals are in custody on judicial remand. Imran Khan apprehended in August following the filing of the case against him. He accused of violating the Official Secrets Act by allegedly disclosing a confidential diplomatic cable sent by Pakistan’s embassy in Washington in March of the previous year. Shah Mahmood Qureshi, during his tenure as the foreign minister, has also arrested under the Official Secrets Act for allegedly breaching the confidentiality of an official cable transmitted by the Pakistani embassy in the United States to the foreign office.
