In London, Zoleka Mandela, the granddaughter of Nelson Mandela, has passed away at the age of 43.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation expressed its deep condolences to the Mandela family in a statement released on Tuesday morning, saying, “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Mandela family on the tragic passing of Zoleka Mandela, which occurred last night. We grieve the loss of a cherished grandchild of Mum Winnie and Madiba and a friend of the Foundation.”

The Nelson Mandela Foundation acknowledged her significant contributions, stating, “Her dedication to increasing awareness about cancer prevention and her resolute efforts to dismantle the stigma associated with this illness will serve as a lasting source of inspiration for all of us.”
A statement shared on Zoleka Mandela’s Instagram account provided insight into her ongoing battle with cancer.
According to the statement attributed to family spokesperson Zwelabo Mandela, Zoleka Mandela was admitted to the hospital on Monday, September 18th, for continuous treatment related to metastatic cancer. This cancer had spread to various parts of her body, including the hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain, and spinal cord. Recent scans had uncovered significant disease progression, including fibrosis in the lungs and the presence of multiple emboli.
Zoleka Mandela passed away in the evening of Monday, September 25th, with her loved ones by her side. The message expressed deep gratitude to the medical team who cared for her during her illness.
Zoleka was 43 years old.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation expressed their condolences, saying, “Our thoughts are with her family and friends during this incredibly challenging time. Hamba kahle Zoleka, we will remember you.”
