Gurdwara denounced Khalistani extremists

Condemning the “disorderly behavior,” the Glasgow Gurdwara denounced Khalistani extremists and expressed its commitment to being inclusive and welcoming to individuals from all communities and backgrounds.

In response to the recent incident at Glasgow Gurdwara where Khalistani extremists prevented an Indian envoy from entering, the Gurdwara has issued a strong condemnation, rebuking the disruptive behavior. They have reaffirmed their commitment to being an inclusive place of worship open to people from all communities and backgrounds.

The statement by Glasgow Gurdwara Guru Granth Sahib Sikh Sabha, dated September 29, 2023, recounts the incident when the Indian High Commissioner visited the Gurdwara on a personal visit, facilitated by a member of the Scottish Parliament. It further explains that individuals from outside the Glasgow area attempted to disrupt the visit, leading the visiting party to decide to leave the premises.

Even after the Indian envoy had departed, the Gurdwara reported that these unruly individuals continued to disrupt the congregation. Glasgow Gurdwara strongly condemned such disorderly behavior that disrupted the peaceful proceedings of a Sikh place of worship.

A viral video circulating on social media shows a man preventing the Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, from entering the Gurdwara in Glasgow. The video also depicts two men attempting to open the door of the High Commissioner’s car in the parking area, ultimately resulting in the car leaving the premises of Glasgow Gurudwara Saheb. India has promptly raised this “disgraceful” incident with the UK government, and Junior UK Foreign Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan has acknowledged the viral video on social media, expressing her concern. She emphasized the paramount importance of ensuring the safety and security of foreign diplomats and stressed that places of worship in the UK must remain open to all.

This incident occurs within the broader context of an escalating diplomatic dispute between India and Canada, triggered by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s accusation of “Indian government agents” being involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June.
