On Tuesday, former President Trump launched an appeal against the landmark ruling in Maine that disqualified him from the state’s 2024 presidential ballot.

Trump’s legal team accused Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows of bias and urged the Kennebec Superior Court to overturn her decision, which applied the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause to Trump’s actions related to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Trump is also expected to appeal a similar ruling in Colorado, where he was barred from the ballot.

Both states have temporarily halted the enforcement of their decisions to allow the appeals process to unfold. Bellows has maintained that politics and personal views played no role in her ruling, emphasizing her commitment to upholding the Constitution. Simultaneously, in Colorado, a group of voters seeking to prevent Trump’s candidacy under the 14th Amendment has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court, emphasizing the national importance of determining whether a former president engaged in insurrection can hold office again.  former President Trump launched

The Colorado Republican Party has also called on the U.S. high court to overturn the state court’s decision, citing irreparable harm to the party. The Maine superior court is expected to make a decision on the matter by January 17.
