The year 2023 marked a significant milestone for the tech industry, introducing a plethora of innovative products that not only enhanced the enjoyment of biking but also prioritized safety for those venturing into the world on two wheels.
However, amidst the array of products, only a select few managed to make a lasting impression on me, earning the coveted spot on my Editor’s Choice list. These standout items continued to evoke excitement long after the initial review period. The curated selection spans across different categories, encompassing road gear, tires, shoes, and even a new and noteworthy race experience thrown in for good measure.
As a bit of get-to-know-me, I’m the road, cross-country mountain, and cyclocross race guy here at BikeRumor. I like to race my bike, but I have as much fun cruising around with the family.
My inclination leans towards the performance-oriented side of cycling gear, where I find genuine excitement in discovering innovative ways to maximize every watt of effort. There’s a particular fascination with tires, especially those designed for cyclocross, and the aroma of Mastik in the morning holds a strangely captivating allure for me.

This year, I spent lots of time trying to get more butts on bikes, especially with kids in our community. Working with local organizations like Communicycle and hosting gear drives, we got a few more kids pedaling this season. I spent lots of time testing gear and hosting cyclocross practices at our local course at Hollow Oak Land Trust. In a nutshell, 2023 has been all about community, and it’s been great.
This year brought about a shift in focus as I found myself more enthralled by my children’s races than my own. Experiencing their nervous excitement and the sense of wonder about what lies ahead added a whole new layer of enthusiasm to my love for the sport. As we approach 2024, I eagerly anticipate what the future holds. In the meantime, I’m relishing in enjoyable rides, moments of relaxation, and a generous dose of hockey.
