the ongoing conflict

A priest on CNN sparked controversy by connecting the “Christmas story” to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, leading to a strong backlash on social media.

Father Edward Beck, when asked about global suffering during the holiday season, emphasized the Christmas narrative of a Palestinian Jew born into occupied territory, drawing parallels to the current world situation. He highlighted the homelessness and refuge-seeking of Jesus’ family, relating it to the plight of refugees today. Despite the backlash, Beck expressed the message of hope and light in the face of darkness, citing Jesus’ teachings to love one another and even your enemies.

Foundation for Defense of Democracies research fellow Hussain Abdul-Hussain criticized Father Beck, a Roman Catholic priest, saying, “Because you know how in Matthew 15:24 Jesus said ‘I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel,’ by Israel Jesus meant Palestine. Father Beck has to stop watching Al-Jazeera and start reading the New Testament.” Abdul-Hussain’s comment suggests disagreement with Father Beck’s interpretation of the biblical passage and implies that Beck’s perspective may be influenced by media sources such as Al-Jazeera. the ongoing conflict

Conservative radio host Erick Erickson remarked on the press’s perceived disconnect from the public, stating, “How can the press signal itself not really connected to the people? Put on commentary like this.” He criticized CNN for allegedly pushing a political agenda by linking the “story of Christmas” to the Israel-Hamas conflict and using Christ in the discourse, which he believes reflects poorly on the network. GOP strategist Steve Guest described the situation as an intensified “war on Christmas” this year due to CNN’s actions. Meanwhile, Versus Media Podcast host Stephen L. Miller added a sarcastic note, saying, “Merry Christmas from CNN,” suggesting a sense of irony or disapproval.
