Denmark Maersk is gearing

Denmark Maersk is gearing up to recommence shipping operations in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, according to a statement released on Sunday. The decision is attributed to the initiation of Operation Prosperity Guardian (OPG), a U.S.-led military effort aimed at ensuring the security of maritime commerce in the region.

Maersk had temporarily halted the passage of its vessels through the Bab el-Mandeb strait in December, following attacks on its ships. This disruption had significant implications for the usability of the Suez Canal, a critical conduit for global trade.

The U.S. announced the launch of Operation Prosperity Guardian on Tuesday, describing it as a multinational initiative to safeguard Red Sea commerce from Yemeni militants allegedly supported by Iran. These militants had been targeting international vessels with drones and missiles, citing their actions as a response to Israel’s conflict in Gaza. Denmark Maersk is gearing

In its Sunday statement, Maersk confirmed the establishment and deployment of Operation Prosperity Guardian, expressing readiness to resume vessel transit through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. This development allows the company to once again utilize the Suez Canal for routes connecting Asia and Europe.

While Maersk intends to provide more details in the coming days, the company emphasized the possibility of adjusting its approach based on evolving safety conditions. Earlier in the week, Maersk had rerouted ships around Africa via the Cape of Good Hope and implemented container surcharges for Asia shipments to offset the additional costs associated with the extended journey. Other firms and even oil major BP had also temporarily ceased transiting the Red Sea due to safety concerns in recent weeks.
