Investigators think a deadly crash Wednesday morning at the Rainbow Bridge, which links the US and Canada involved a man who was traveling with his wife in a Bentley at a high rate of speed, law enforcement sources told CNN.
The speeding vehicle hit a curb, then a guardrail that sent the vehicle airborne and into a secondary screening area, the sources said.
The individual, residing in New York State, originally planned to attend a KISS concert in Canada. However, when the concert was canceled, investigators believe he and his companion opted to visit a U.S. casino instead. The crash occurred subsequent to their departure from the casino, as per sources reported to CNN.
Contrary to earlier reports indicating the vehicle was traveling from Canada to the U.S., law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation clarified that the vehicle had entered the bridge area on the U.S. side.
The explosion, which happened on the eve of the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, resulted in closures and delays on a busy travel day. Initially raising concerns of a potential terror attack, New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated, “I want to be very, very clear to Americans and New Yorkers, at this time there is no indication of a terrorist attack,” during a news conference. US Attorney Trini Ross reiterated this sentiment in a separate news conference, emphasizing that the preliminary investigation suggested a non-terrorism-related incident. the US and Canada
The FBI, after concluding its investigation at the Rainbow Bridge scene, confirmed the absence of a terrorism nexus and explosive materials in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
