The U.S. on Monday released a new $100 million aid package for Ukraine, announcing more artillery rounds and anti-aircraft munitions as Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin made a surprise visit to Kyiv.

The package includes 155 millimeter artillery shells, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, small arms ammunition and Javelin and AT-4 launchers.

During a press conference held in Kyiv on Monday, Austin emphasized that the aid package is essential for bolstering Ukrainian troops in the upcoming months, providing them with the necessary resources for successful winter warfare.

In acknowledging the complexities of the conflict, Austin stressed the importance of delivering the right capabilities and seamlessly integrating them into military operations. He recognized the Ukrainian military as a learning organization, continuously adapting and improving based on its experiences in various operations.

Austin highlighted the significance of aligning military operations with the objectives and goals outlined by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. With Ukrainian forces facing a prolonged stalemate against entrenched Russian counterparts throughout the year, he acknowledged the limited successes achieved since their significant counteroffensive in June. announcing more artillery

Recognizing Ukraine’s ongoing need for consistent support from Western allies, Austin affirmed the United States’ commitment to assisting Kyiv for as long as necessary. However, he acknowledged the impending challenges as approved funds dwindle with the onset of winter.

The Pentagon clarified that it is strategically distributing aid packages to Ukraine, with the pace contingent on Congress passing additional legislation. This legislative action holds the potential to unlock substantial funding, offering further support in the ongoing conflict.
