One of the most surprising features of this remaster is the introduction of a new mode called No Return. Naughty Dog describes it as a roguelike survival mode specifically crafted to allow players to showcase their skills in randomized encounters, providing a fresh perspective on the game’s combat dynamics. Notably, No Return incorporates various playable characters, some making their debut in The Last of Us franchise. Each character comes with distinct traits catering to different playstyles.

Players engaging in No Return will have the freedom to shape their own journey on each run. The mode presents choices between various stealth and combat encounters, pitting players against a diverse range of enemies. Each encounter comes with unique twists, introducing new and unexpected elements to keep players on their toes, as described in a blog post. This innovative mode aims to offer a dynamic and unpredictable gameplay experience.
