IKEA is recalling more than 25,000 mirrors sold in the US and Canada because theY could fall and break, potentially harming consumers.
The IKEA LETTAN mirrors, comprising approximately 14,600 units in the U.S. and 10,500 in Canada, are being recalled due to a safety concern. The mirrors feature plastic fittings that connect them to the wall, and there’s a risk of these fittings breaking, leading to the mirror falling. This poses a potential laceration hazard for consumers, as reported by the company on its website.
This recall follows a previous one in March 2023, which involved around 22,400 mirrors. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has been involved in both recalls. Globally, IKEA has received over 65 reports related to these mirrors, including 56 incidents in the previous recall. The mirrors subject to the recall were available for purchase in U.S. stores and online from December 2019 through June 2023, priced between $29.99 and $55.99, according to the retailer. Consumers who have purchased these mirrors are advised to cease using them immediately and get in touch with IKEA to obtain replacement wall fittings, which will be provided free of charge. This precautionary measure aims to address the safety concern associated with the mirrors and ensure the well-being of consumers.
For those who have purchased the recalled mirrors, it is crucial to discontinue use immediately. Consumers are urged to reach out to IKEA to request replacement wall fittings, which will be provided at no cost. IKEA has provided instructions on its website regarding the safe disassembly of the mirrors. Additionally, customers have the option to return the mirrors to any IKEA store and receive a full refund. Notably, proof of purchase (receipt) is not necessary to obtain a full refund, as confirmed by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
