Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, a prominent Russian official and a key associate of President Putin, asserted on Wednesday that Ukraine had made attempts to target three nuclear power facilities.
Patrushev stated that the Leningrad, Kalinin, and Kursk nuclear power plants had come under attack. He alleged that Ukrainian drones had struck a storage facility for nuclear waste situated within the premises of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. Moscow had strongly criticized this incident, which it claimed occurred at the close of October.
Patrushev did not provide any supporting evidence for his assertions or offer additional information. Ukraine, as is its usual practice, refrained from confirming or denying its involvement in military operations on Russian territory, and thus did not comment on the reported incidents.
In a related development, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed on Wednesday that several countries are engaging in actions that he perceives as directly targeting the stability and integrity of the post-Soviet region. Russian Security Council
Russia’s defense ministry said a delegation of Chinese military officials visited Moscow Wednesday with talks focused on “increasing bilateral cooperation in the defense sector.”
Announcing the visit, the ministry stated on Telegram that relations between Russia and China “are an example of strategic interaction based on trust and respect.”
“We, unlike some aggressive Western countries, are not creating a military bloc. Relations between Russia and China are an example of strategic interaction based on trust and respect,” Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at negotiations with Zhang Youxia, deputy chairman of China’s Central Military Council.
“I am convinced that today’s meeting will be another step towards deepening multidisciplinary ties between our countries and military departments,” Shoigu said.
