Gaza has been described

Gaza has been described as a tragic place for children, according to U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres. He emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in the region. Palestinian health authorities reported a death toll of over 10,000 due to Israeli airstrikes.

Both Israel and Hamas, which controls Gaza, have resisted international calls for a ceasefire. Israel insists that Hamas should release hostages taken during its activities in southern Israel on October 7th before considering a ceasefire. Hamas, on the other hand, maintains that it will not release the hostages or halt fighting while Gaza is under attack.

“Ground operations conducted by the Israel Defense Forces, along with ongoing bombardments, are having a severe impact on civilians. The targets include hospitals, refugee camps, mosques, churches, and U.N. facilities, including shelters. This situation has created a perilous environment where no one is safe,” as stated by Guterres during his press briefing. Gaza has been described

Simultaneously, Guterres expressed concerns about Hamas and other militant groups using civilians as human shields and launching rockets indiscriminately towards Israel. He called for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.

Israel has reported that 31 of its soldiers were killed since they initiated expanded ground operations in Gaza on October 27. They have also reiterated their claim that Hamas is using civilians and hospitals as hiding places. However, Hamas disputes this, calling it a “false narrative” and suggesting that the U.N. should verify these allegations.

A Reuters journalist based in Gaza has described the overnight bombardment by Israel, involving air, ground, and sea operations, as one of the most intense since the October 7 attack, in which Hamas claimed the lives of 1,400 people in Israel and took more than 240 hostages.
