Last week, President Vladimir Putin signed a bill that reversed Russia’s ratification of a global nuclear test ban. This move by Russia has raised concerns and comes at a time when tensions between Russia and Western nations are already high due to various international issues, including the situation in Ukraine.

On Sunday, the Russian military announced a successful test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that is intended to carry nuclear warheads. This ICBM was launched from a new nuclear submarine. This development occurs against the backdrop of escalating tensions between Russia and Western nations due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Further contributing to these tensions, President Vladimir Putin recently signed a bill revoking Russia’s ratification of a global nuclear test ban. Moscow asserted that this move was necessary to establish parity with the United States, adding another layer of complexity to the already strained relations between Russia and the West.

According to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry, the Imperator Alexander III strategic missile cruiser conducted a test launch of the Bulava missile from an underwater position in Russia’s northern White Sea. The missile successfully hit a target in the far-eastern region of Kamchatka. The statement did not specify the exact date of the test launch. President Vladimir Putin

The Imperator Alexander III is part of the new Borei-class nuclear submarines, each capable of carrying 16 Bulava missiles. These submarines are intended to be a key component of Russia’s naval nuclear forces in the years to come. The Defense Ministry explained that the ballistic missile launch is the final test for the vessel, and a decision will be made regarding its induction into the fleet.

As of the statement, the Russian navy currently has three Borei-class submarines in active service, with one more undergoing testing, and three additional submarines under construction.
