Britney Spears wants to clarify that her forthcoming memoir, “The Woman in Me,” was not intended to “offend anyone.” Recent excerpts from the book had generated headlines due to revelations about drug use, infidelity, and an abortion. In response, the pop star shared her thoughts on Instagram on Friday.
Although Spears doesn’t mention anyone by name, she posted, “My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means! That was me in the past, and it’s all behind me now. I don’t appreciate the headlines I’m reading. That’s precisely why I left the entertainment industry four years ago. Most of the book’s content is from 20 years ago. I’ve moved on, and I’m starting anew with a clean slate.”
She further elaborated, stating, “This is a book that I didn’t realize was necessary to write. While it may be unsettling for some, it has provided me with closure and the potential for a brighter future. I hope it can offer insight and solace to those who often feel isolated, hurt, or misunderstood. Once more, my intention in writing this book was not to dwell on my past experiences, as the media is doing, which I find trivial and absurd. I’ve since moved forward.”
