Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, representing Minnesota, criticized Israel’s response to a recent attack by Hamas in a series of social media posts on Monday.
Omar, a well-known critic of Israel and a supporter of Palestinian causes, appeared to draw a parallel between the Israeli civilians killed by Hamas terrorists over the weekend and the Palestinians who have lost their lives in the ongoing Israeli military actions.
She wrote, “While we mourn the loss of life among hundreds of innocent Israeli civilians, including 9 Americans, this past weekend, we must also acknowledge the suffering of innocent Palestinian civilians who have been killed and whose lives have been disrupted.”
Omar further highlighted the challenging living conditions in Gaza and accused Israel of implementing an “apartheid” system, which she believes contributes to the violence from Hamas.
She added, “Palestinian residents in the West Bank face similarly difficult circumstances, with the constant destruction of their ancestral homes, damage to their crops, and violent encounters with Israeli settlers.” Omar shared these views on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.
“Palestinians have limited avenues for seeking justice and accountability. Incidents involving the IDF and Israeli settlers targeting Palestinians often go unpunished. Attempts to pursue justice through international courts face obstruction from the Israeli government, often with the support of the United States,” she continued. “While the world condemns Hamas’s attacks, it’s essential to also oppose the Israeli military response, which has resulted in the loss of hundreds of Palestinian lives, including nearly two dozen children.”
Despite inquiries from Fox News Digital, Omar’s office did not provide further details regarding her social media posts.
The congresswoman did not specify what she believed would have been an appropriate Israeli response to the Saturday’s attack, which has led to the deaths of at least 1,000 Israelis and left 2,700 more wounded. Her sole suggestion for a “solution to this tragedy” was “a negotiated peace, ensuring equal rights and security for both Israelis and Palestinians.” attack by Hamas
Later in the thread, Omar said that Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant had called all Palestinians “human animals” in comments earlier this week, though his full statement made clear that he was referring only to Hamas terrorists.
