Yet another CES

Yet another CES event has concluded, and transportation remained a focal point on one of the world’s largest tech stages. The spotlight wasn’t solely on electric cars; CES 2024 showcased a diverse array of technologies and innovations.

Companies and startups took center stage, presenting advancements in automated driving, electric vehicle (EV) charging, software (particularly artificial intelligence), sensors, aviation, boats, drones, micromobility, and more. TechCrunch, among other attendees, was there to witness and report on the exciting developments.

Here are some of the noteworthy tech themes that caught our attention at CES 2024.

The Big Three U.S. automakers — GM, Ford and Stellantis — may not have had splashy displays and product reveals, but numerous others were there helping cement CES as a major auto show. Honda, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Sony, Turkey’s Togg and Vinfast all showed off electric concepts and production cars at the event. Yet another CES

CES 2024 wasn’t solely dominated by major automakers; electrification made its mark across various modes of transportation, encompassing motorcycles, e-bikes, go-karts, big rigs, boats, and even aircraft.

Notable examples include Segway’s unveiling of electric scooters (E2 Pro and Superscooter ST1), e-bikes (Segway Xafari and Segway Xyber), and the Segway GoKart Pro 2, which can be connected to a PC for playing racing games like Forza.

Startups also played a significant role, participating in CES-related events such as Pepcom and Unveiled. Cleveland-based startup Land Energy showcased its sporty e-bike with a swappable battery. Finland’s Verge Motorcycles introduced the Verge TS Ultra, an electric motorcycle boasting a hubless ring design, advanced driver assist tech, and a robust powertrain producing 201 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque. In Eureka Park, where numerous startups presented their innovations, electrification was evident. One standout was Solar Buggy, a company presenting an electric urban mobility vehicle resembling an enclosed golf cart.
