When retired postman Rodney Holbrook set up cameras to try to find out who was tidying his shed almost every night, he found an unexpected helper scurrying around his workbench.
The monochromatic, night-vision footage unveiled the mystery behind the orderly arrangements as a diminutive mouse was discovered to be the culprit. The footage showed the tiny creature diligently moving objects that were left on the workbench into a nearby box, providing an unexpected explanation for the tidying efforts.
Initially observing an unusual occurrence where food intended for birds was mysteriously ending up in old shoes stored in the shed, Holbrook, residing in Builth Wells, a small town in central Wales, decided to investigate. Setting up a camera to unveil the mystery, he captured footage of a mouse carrying items such as screwdrivers, clothes pegs, or pieces of cable in its mouth. The mouse was observed skillfully navigating and climbing into boxes nearly as tall as itself, shedding light on the unexpected behavior.
Holbrook expressed disbelief upon discovering the mouse’s tidying habits, noting its ability to organize various items, including bits of plastic and nuts and bolts, into the box. Amused by the mouse’s efforts, Holbrook admitted that he no longer bothers to tidy up himself, relying on the diligent rodent to take care of it.
The miniature Marie Kondo, as Holbrook humorously referred to the mouse, faced challenges with certain objects, such as a long cable that proved difficult to fit into the box. Despite the occasional struggle, the mouse has consistently demonstrated its tidying skills for approximately two months.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Holbrook has encountered a mouse with a penchant for organization. He mentioned installing a night-vision camera for a friend in 2019, which also revealed a mouse keeping the friend’s shed tidy. The recurring theme of house-proud mice adds a delightful and unexpected twist to the everyday routine.
