Smoking brisket, salmon, chicken and ribs no longer requires an outdoor smoking section. GE Profile just launched a smart indoor smoker ahead of the CES 2024 trade show, which will be held in Las Vegas next week.
The smoker is safe to use inside, allowing for year-round smoking in homes and apartments without space to accommodate an outdoor model. It’s one of only a few indoor smokers and the first with true smart features and remote app control.
The new appliance from GE Profile, designed to reside on kitchen countertops, differs from traditional outdoor smokers and pellet grills. In this innovative design, minimal smoke escapes the chamber. Instead, wood-pellet smoke undergoes filtration through an advanced catalyst converter. This process enables the cooking and flavoring of the food inside with heat and smoke-flavored hot air. Notably, there are no filters to clean or replace in this unique cooking system.
CNET had the opportunity to witness the indoor smoker in action at an exclusive preview event in New York last month. True to its description, the indoor smoker effectively cooked a variety of meats using wood-pellet-powered smoke, generating only minimal visible smoke inside and emitting no plumes. After the cooking cycle, opening the smoker’s doors released only a subtle aroma of smoke, reminiscent of a wood stove fire. chicken and ribs
Fueled by wood pellets, this electric smoker directs filtered smoke into a tightly sealed chamber, imparting a smoky flavor to meats, fish, vegetables, and other items within its modestly sized cooking space. The appliance features five adjustable smoke levels, allowing users to experiment with smoke intensity for different foods. Smart app integration offers a plethora of recipes and enables remote control and monitoring. Additionally, a built-in probe assists in achieving precise cooking times and temperatures.
While the Indoor Smoker comes with a price tag of $1,000 and is available at select national retailers such as Best Buy and Williams Sonoma, it gained attention and secured over $800,000 in funding during an online crowdfunding campaign in 2022.
