Israel military chief Herzi Halevi, stated on Tuesday that the conflict with Hamas is expected to endure for several months.

This announcement followed the United Nations expressing concern over the heightened Israeli attacks in a specific area of the Gaza Strip, resulting in the death of over 100 Palestinians within a two-day period.

Halevi emphasized that dismantling a terrorist organization like Hamas requires persistent and determined efforts, with no quick solutions. He asserted that the ongoing military campaign aims to target Hamas’ leadership, acknowledging that the duration may extend to weeks or even months.

Israeli actions intensified around Christmas, particularly in a central area just south of the seasonal waterway that bisects the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army told civilians to leave the area, though many said there was no safe place left to go.

“We are gravely concerned about the continued bombardment of Middle Gaza by Israeli forces, which has claimed more than 100 Palestinian lives since Christmas Eve,” said U.N. Human Rights Office spokesperson Seif Magango.

On Tuesday, the United Nations announced that Sigrid Kaag, the outgoing Dutch finance minister, would serve as the coordinator for humanitarian relief shipments into Gaza, in accordance with a U.N. Security Council resolution adopted on Friday.

Despite global appeals for a ceasefire in the ongoing 11-week-old war and mounting concerns about the potential spread of the conflict, Israel remains resolute in its determination to dismantle Hamas. This determination persists, even as clashes between U.S. and Iran-aligned forces occur in other regions, heightening tensions in the broader context.
