With assistance from Israel’s specialized canine unit, Oketz, soldiers successfully located and raided a tunnel constructed by Hamas terrorists in the southern part of Gaza City, as confirmed by an IDF spokesperson on Friday. The IDF released a video showcasing the dedicated efforts of the military’s four-legged unit during the operation.
The video captured the dog, who was attached with a camera, trotting along the terror tunnel, which included an elaborate system of tunnels.
The tunnels included command and communication rooms, storage, hideouts, as well as water and electricity infrastructure. a tunnel constructed
While the IDF prides itself on possessing one of the most technologically advanced fighting forces, with the integration of artificial intelligence in many operations, there are instances where a traditional, old-school approach is essential. This is where the Oketz unit distinguishes itself, relying on time-tested methods to fulfill specific tasks.
“We deploy various types of dogs within the unit, with some breeds remaining confidential. However, the majority of our canine members belong to the shepherd category,” revealed “Major A,” an operative canine warfare school commander for the Oketz unit, in a statement to Fox News Digital.
“They are used for three main reasons: tactical dogs that are used to identify enemies; explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) dogs for finding explosives and others; and search and rescue dogs that took a vital part in this war in Israel and Gaza,” Major A said.
