On Monday, the United States unveiled a 10-nation coalition aimed at addressing Houthi missile and drone attacks on ships navigating the Red Sea. Countries such as Britain, France, Bahrain, and Italy are among the participants in this “multinational security initiative.”
In a statement released on Monday evening, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin emphasized the need for countries to unite in response to the challenge posed by Houthi rebels. Austin stated, “Countries that seek to uphold the foundational principle of freedom of navigation must come together to tackle the challenge posed by this non-state actor.”

The coalition’s activities will include joint patrols conducted by some countries, while others will contribute intelligence support in the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. This collaborative approach underscores the shared commitment to ensuring the freedom of navigation in the region and countering the disruptive actions of Houthi rebels.
