A convict, who engaged in clandestine phone conversations of a sexual nature with a prison guard allegedly issued threats to staff members after the guard was dismissed, terminating their communication. Ruth Shmylo is currently facing trial for her purported five-month involvement with the “manipulative” drug dealer, Harri Pullen.
Pullen, 24, was characterized as a dominating figure within the prison system and identified as a member of an organized crime group, according to details presented in Cardiff Crown Court. Jurors learned on Tuesday that Shmylo, 26, was relieved of her duties at HMP Parc in Bridgend in April 2021 due to “concerns” surrounding her relationships with inmates.
During the trial, Dan Hayman, the head of security, revealed that Shmylo had previously received warnings about maintaining professional boundaries four months prior to her dismissal. Providing testimony, Mr. Hayman stated that following Shmylo’s termination, Pullen’s demeanor and conduct took a negative turn. a prison guard
“He became increasingly threatening towards staff, and when staff inquired about the abrupt decline in his behavior, it was attributed to his partner of several months having relationships with other men,” Mr. Hayman continued. “It became markedly clear that he had been in a significant relationship with Ms. Shmylo, raising concerns that continued contact and the relationship posed a potential risk or danger to our staff.”
