Zeke Gregory Best the 10-month-old son of Jeremy Best, became the tragic focus of an Amber Alert issued on Friday. Regrettably, the infant was discovered deceased on Saturday morning by hunters in Bonneville County. Jeremy Albert Best, the father and the suspected perpetrator of his pregnant wife’s murder — Zeke’s mother — and the kidnapping of the baby, was apprehended, as announced by the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.
The sequence of events unfolded when a group of hunters reported finding a man in a sleeping bag by the side of the road around 9:15 a.m. Saturday. The man, later identified as Jeremy Best, was reportedly naked and making unusual statements, prompting the hunters to alert Bonneville County Dispatch. The unfortunate discovery marked the culmination of a disturbing incident that has left a community in shock.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area, which was on Kepps Crossing Road east of Idaho Falls. After making contact with the the hunters, deputies identified the man as Best, who was “secured and placed in a patrol car until Idaho Falls Ambulance personnel arrived to treat him for any injuries,” officials stated. Deputies also located Zeke Best; it was unclear from authorities whether the baby was in the SUV or not. A cause of death for Zeke hasn’t been determined, Bonneville County Coroner Rick Taylor told EastIdahoNews.com. His body will be taken to Boise for a forensic autopsy.
On Thursday, Best walked into the Swan Valley General Store naked. Video of the incident, sent to EastIdahoNews.com, shows him nude and slouching on the store’s counter next to the cash register, where he grabbed a cigarette before being escorted outside of the building by several people.
