Three individuals lost their lives, and six others, including two in critical condition, were injured in a terrorist shooting attack at the entrance to Jerusalem on Thursday morning, as reported by both police and medics.
According to the police, at approximately 7:40 a.m., two Palestinian gunmen emerged from a vehicle on Weizman Street, located at the main entrance to the capital, and opened fire on people at a bus stop. Responding to the attack, two off-duty soldiers and an armed civilian in the vicinity returned fire, ultimately neutralizing the two terrorists.
The attackers were identified as brothers Murad Namr, 38, and Ibrahim Namr, 30, hailing from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sur Baher. The Shin Bet security agency revealed that the brothers were affiliated with Hamas and had been previously incarcerated for involvement in terrorist activities. Murad served a prison sentence from 2010 to 2020 for planning terror attacks under the guidance of terror elements in the Gaza Strip. Footage revealed that the terrorists were armed with an M-16 assault rifle and a handgun. During a police search of the vehicle, substantial amounts of ammunition were discovered.
Authorities stated that ongoing searches in the area were being conducted to eliminate the possibility of additional attackers.
The Magen David Adom ambulance service reported that its medics pronounced the death of a 24-year-old woman at the scene. Eight other individuals were transported to hospitals in Jerusalem.
Tragically, an elderly man and a woman, both critically wounded, were later declared dead at a hospital in Jerusalem. The young woman killed at the scene was identified as Livia Dickman, while the man was named as Ashdod rabbinical judge Elimelech Wasserman, 73. The other woman was identified as Hannah Ifergan, in her 60s.
