A wave of cheers marked the triumphant emergence of 41 workers from a collapsed tunnel beneath the Himalayas on Tuesday, concluding an incredible and perilous weeks-long rescue operation to bore through rock and debris.
These men had been trapped for 17 days, enduring a challenging ordeal as recovery teams worked tirelessly to drill an escape route through the mountain. The operation faced numerous setbacks due to technical issues, but ultimately, the last few meters were manually drilled, marking the successful culmination of the rescue mission. A wave of cheers
Video footage from the scene captured the moment when Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand state, greeted the workers as they emerged from the tunnel, surrounded by jubilant scenes.
Dhami confirmed in a press conference on Tuesday night local time that all 41 workers appeared to be in good health. He stated, “Since they have come out of a very different environment, we will follow the advice of the doctor. They will be monitored first. No one is critical.” Dhami reassured that none of the workers exhibited symptoms of weakness or fever, emphasizing their overall good health. He expressed gratitude to the workers, engineers, and various government departments that collaborated to successfully coordinate the rescue mission.
