Valve has revealed the time when fans can expect to purchase the Steam Deck OLED, which was recently announced for a November 16 release. The announcement came with a renewed promise to combat bots and resellers, which have been an ongoing concern amid major releases like this one.
Valve has officially announced that the Steam Deck OLED will be available for purchase starting November 16 at 10 am PT, exclusively in the U.S. and Canada. In an X/Twitter post, the company outlined measures to combat bots and resellers attempting to capitalize on the Limited Edition model, which will have a restricted release.
To be eligible for purchase, customers must meet certain criteria:
1. Reside in the United States or Canada.
2. Maintain an account in good standing.
3. Have made a purchase on Steam before November 2023.
4. Limited to one unit per account. Valve has revealed
Valve emphasized that the Limited Edition model is viewed as an experiment, both in terms of execution and gauging customer interest. The company expressed hope that the community will be enthusiastic about this release, and if demand proves substantial, it may pave the way for the introduction of more color variants in the future.
All Steam Deck OLED versions will feature enhanced OLED displays, better audio, and an estimated 30 percent to 50 percent battery life improvement over the launch version. It will be available in 512GB and 1TB configurations, which will cost $549 and $649 respectively. The original LCD model, meanwhile, will see its price reduced as Valve seeks to clear inventory. Here are the new prices for the LCD models.
- 64GB Model – $349 (Previously $399)
- 256GB Model – $399 (Previously $529)
- 512GB – $449 (Previously $649)
We wrote in our Steam Deck OLED review, “The Steam Deck OLED brings a fantastic, vibrant screen to Valve’s handheld gaming PC, but its most impressive upgrade is the much-improved battery life. Combined with all its other small but altogether significant improvements, not to mention more storage at the same price, and it’s enough to tempt even current Steam Deck owners into upgrading.”
