Android 14 took a little longer to make its debut than we were expecting, but after going public alongside the release of the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, development seems to be chugging along. Google’s beta program has already started testing the December Pixel Feature Drop, and right on time, the company has begun to roll out its first official update to Android 14 for eligible Pixel phones.
In its customary fashion, Google has unveiled the November security update today, adhering to its first Monday of the month release tradition. The update, bearing version number UP1A.231105.003 for most devices, diverges with version endings 001 for older Pixels and 004 for the Pixel 8 series. This update brings with it a handful of bug fixes aimed at enhancing the user experience on Pixel devices, with a noteworthy resolution being the fix for the green tint problem that some users encountered with the always-on display.
Simultaneously, Google has released its November 2023 Security Bulletin, providing insights into the critical fixes incorporated within this update. To streamline the process for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to implement device-specific changes, the company divides its fixes into two security patch levels. took a little longer
The first level, dated November 1, addresses eight high-severity Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) within the framework, along with seven in the system. Furthermore, it addresses a critical-severity issue, identified as CVE-2023-40113, which, while not impacting Android 14 users, had the potential to result in “local information disclosure” on devices running Android 11, 12, and 13. In addition to these fixes, Google is dispatching updates to address vulnerabilities in the Statsd and DNS Resolver subcomponents through Google Play System updates.
