Tyler Christopher an actor known for his roles on “General Hospital” and “Days of Our Lives,” has died. He was 50.
Christopher’s representative, Chi Muoi Lo, confirmed to CNN in a statement that the actor passed away on Tuesday morning.
The statement expressed deep sorrow, saying, “This news was incredibly shocking, and I am devastated by his loss. He was a very gifted actor, and more importantly, an amazing friend. My heart goes out to his friends and family who loved him so much.”
Maurice Bernard, Christopher’s co-star on “General Hospital,” also paid tribute to him, acknowledging his exceptional talent on screen and his ability to bring joy to his dedicated fans through his acting. Bernard described Christopher as a sweet and wonderful friend to all who knew him.
In 2008, Christopher married ESPN reporter Brienne Pedigo, with whom he had two children. Their marriage came to an end in 2021. Prior to this, he was married to actress Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004.
Christopher is best remembered for his portrayal of the popular character Nikolas Cassadine on the enduring daytime soap opera “General Hospital.” He took on the role of Cassadine at various intervals from 1996 to 2016, securing one Daytime Emmy win and earning four additional nominations for his outstanding performance.
In a 2017 interview with Soap Opera Digest, the actor disclosed that he had departed from “General Hospital” for a “personal leave,” and, ultimately, did not return to the show. Apart from his celebrated acting career, Christopher faced various challenges toward the end of his life. In 2019, he reportedly underwent craniotomy surgery after a fall in his bathroom resulted in a head injury. According to a July interview with Bloomberg Law, his sister had petitioned to become his legal guardian during his recovery, a guardianship that concluded in 2021.
In May, the actor was arrested at the Hollywood-Burbank airport on suspicion of public intoxication, as reported by the LA Times.
