Britney Spears expressed that if the decision had solely rested on her, she would not have taken that course of action.

Britney Spears, in her highly anticipated upcoming memoir titled “The Woman in Me,” reveals a deeply personal experience from over two decades ago. In an excerpt released on Tuesday, she discloses that she had an abortion during her relationship with Justin Timberlake. This revelation is just one of the many insights found in the memoir, which is set to be released on October 24. In her book, the 41-year-old pop star also addresses the controversial conservatorship that had controlled her life and finances for 14 years.

Britney Spears writes in the excerpt, “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it,” referring to the abortion. She further mentions that Justin Timberlake was resolute in not wanting to become a father.

The memoir delves into their early years when they both met as children while performing on Disney’s “Mickey Mouse Club.”

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake started dating during their late teens and quickly became one of the entertainment industry’s most prominent couples before parting ways in 2002.

According to her memoir, Timberlake was deeply uncomfortable with the pregnancy. Spears writes, “He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.” She goes on to describe the experience as “one of the most agonizing things” she has ever endured in her life.

As of now, representatives for Justin Timberlake, who is currently 42 years old and married to actor Jessica Biel, have not yet responded to requests for comment. Following her split with Timberlake, Britney Spears had two sons, Sean and Jayden, with her second husband, Kevin Federline.

In 2008, following a highly publicized breakdown, Britney Spears was placed under a unique legal guardianship primarily overseen by her father, Jamie. During a court appearance in 2021, she revealed that the conservatorship prevented her from having her contraceptive intrauterine device (IUD) removed, despite her desire to get pregnant. Britney Spears expresses in her memoir, “The conservatorship stripped me of my womanhood, made me into a child.” She further writes, “I think back now on my father and his associates having control over my body and my money for that long, and it makes me feel sick.”

The conservatorship was terminated in November 2021. Britney Spears did become pregnant in 2022, but tragically, she later announced that she had experienced a miscarriage.
