It appears that we may not get a new iPad this month. Nevertheless, reports suggest that Apple is actively working on the development of new iPad Mini, Air, and Pro models.
Despite a plethora of rumors and speculations, Tuesday passed without any announcements regarding a new iPad. Apple typically takes a few weeks after unveiling its latest smartphones to reveal news about its tablet lineup. Apple enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating the next tablet release, but some credible sources within the Apple community suggest that we may not see the new iPad, Mini, Air, or Pro models this month.
Given Apple’s track record of releasing tablet updates annually since 2017, it seemed reasonable to expect news today. A handful of less reliable sources were confident that we would witness the launch of a new 10.9-inch iPad to complement the 10th-gen model. Apple did unveil its new $79 Apple Pencil with USB-C support, but afterward, there was silence for the remainder of the day.
Last year’s 10th-generation iPads were quietly introduced, with not many significant changes from their predecessors. Apple primarily introduced new color options, relocated the front-facing camera, and incorporated the Apple-designed M2 chip into the sixth-generation iPad Pro. There were speculations that Apple might follow a similar low-key approach for its next iPad, iPad Mini, and iPad Air models.
Throughout the year, there was ongoing anticipation of a new iPad Pro, but on Sunday, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg stated that there’s a slim chance of seeing a new iPad this month. However, Apple is actively working on new tablets. It’s possible that the company is reserving a more substantial announcement for next year. Some rumors have suggested that Apple could introduce a massive 16-inch screen or OLED display to its tablet lineup, which might explain the desire for a more noteworthy launch.
Mark Gurman is known for his reliability in reporting on Apple, so there’s a strong likelihood that we won’t see a new iPad in the near future. Nevertheless, he mentioned that Apple is in the process of developing an iPad Pro powered by the M3 chip. The entire next-gen iPad lineup is expected to receive performance enhancements, but the exact timing, whether it’s next month or next year, remains uncertain.
Earlier this year, highly-regarded Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicated the possibility of a foldable iPad making its debut around 2024. According to certain rumors, this device could potentially be a 2-in-1 that combines elements of a MacBook and a tablet, complete with a built-in kickstand. However, some astute Apple enthusiasts, such as Gurman, have asserted that a 2024 Apple foldable device is highly unlikely. But, why not indulge in the dream? Apple is actively working
Should Apple indeed venture into the realm of foldable devices, it’s likely that their design approach would be distinctly “Apple.” This implies a focus on sleek and minimalist aesthetics, setting them apart from many of the bulkier laptop, tablet, and desktop devices currently available, such as HP’s $5,000 Spectre Fold.
