Sagewood Elementary School marked

Sagewood Elementary School marked a momentous occasion in style on Friday as they celebrated their recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School earlier this year.

The festivities were attended by Wyoming Senator John Barrasso and Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder, in addition to Natrona County School District trustees and board members. The event included a ceremony, and afterward, everyone enjoyed a delightful meal featuring grilled hotdogs and hamburgers. This celebration was a testament to the school’s achievement and its commitment to excellence in education.

The Natrona County High School Marching Band set the tone by playing as students made their way onto the front lawn, marking the commencement of the morning’s festivities. The celebration continued inside the gymnasium, where a series of brief speeches and acknowledgments were made.

Principal Anna Lavin initiated the ceremony by introducing the esteemed guests and dignitaries who were in attendance, making it a momentous occasion for everyone involved.

Ray Catellier, the chair of the NCSD (Natrona County School District) board, lauded the Sagewood Elementary School community for its remarkable and sustained record of excellence over the past decade. He acknowledged that the school had faced numerous challenges, including those posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, a transition to Title One status, and changes in staff and leadership.

Catellier attributed the school’s success to the unwavering dedication of the staff, students. As well as parents, emphasizing that their collective commitment had been instrumental in maintaining. Thoughout a high standard of excellence despite the obstacles they encountered.

Senator Barrasso commended Sagewood Elementary School as he addressed the audience. And describing them as role models not just for the local community but for the entire state of Wyoming. In recognition of their achievements, he presented Principal Lavin with a flag that had been flown over the U.S. Capitol Building.

As he handed over the flag, Senator Barrasso remarked, “May this flag proudly fly as you pursue your mission of educating. And enriching the lives of Wyoming’s future leaders.” He read the included proclamation. As well as extending his congratulations for a job well done. And acknowledging the school’s dedication to its mission.

Megan Degenfelder, Wyoming’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, praised the achievement of Sagewood Elementary School. And similar Blue Ribbon schools in the state. She emphasized that while Wyoming has many excellent schools. Those designated as Blue Ribbon schools are truly among the best of the best, not only within Wyoming but across the entire nation. This recognition highlights their exceptional commitment to educational excellence and their standing as exemplary institutions.

In 2023, both Sagewood Elementary and Southside Elementary School in Powell achieved Blue Ribbon status, as announced by the U.S. Department of Education. For the year 2023, a total of 353 schools across the nation received the Blue Ribbon designation. And showcasing their dedication to maintaining high educational standards and making notable strides in improving educational outcomes.
