Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is refuting reports suggesting that he plans to resign from Congress before completing his term. He addressed reporters on Friday, asserting that he still has unfinished work and goals to achieve. Despite private discussions indicating his potential early departure from Congress, McCarthy stated firmly, “No, I am not resigning.”
He expressed his commitment to maintaining the majority in Congress and continuing to assist those he represents, with aspirations to expand his influence further.
Earlier on that Friday, sources familiar with McCarthy’s thoughts had informed CNN that he was considering stepping down following the House speaker’s election, and this possibility had been given serious consideration by McCarthy.
When questioned about whether he had contemplated an early resignation, he responded, “I look at it every time I have to decide whether I am going to run for reelection or not.”
Following the House’s vote to remove McCarthy from the speaker’s position. The California Republican did not provide a definitive answer regarding his future in Congress. When questioned during a press conference following the vote, he replied, “I’ll look at that.”

On Friday, McCarthy revealed that he had conversations with both Scalise and Jordan. Still, when pressed to endorse either candidate, he declined to do so, maintaining a neutral stance on the matter.
