France increasing military assistance

France is intensifying its support for Ukraine by establishing industrial partnerships between the two nations. Sebastien Lecornu, the French Defense Minister, emphasized the importance of patience and endurance during a press conference in Kyiv, where he led a delegation consisting of lawmakers and business leaders from various combat industries such as drones, robotic technologies linked to drones, artillery, ammunition, and artificial intelligence. During his visit, Lecornu held discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the newly appointed Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. He outlined France’s commitment to providing innovative solutions to the Ukrainian armed forces and moving towards direct acquisitions, at times with French subsidies, to strengthen Ukraine’s military capabilities. Lecornu emphasized that this approach would help France maintain a lasting presence in Kyiv and safeguard its long-term interests in the region.

In an interview with French public radio France Info, Lecornu acknowledged that as the conflict continued, the transfer of equipment from the French armed forces, and potentially other nations, had its limitations. To address this, he explained that France planned to replace a significant amount of older equipment in its own army with newer technology, which could then be provided to Ukraine. Additionally, Lecornu stressed the importance of facilitating direct connections between French manufacturers and the Ukrainian military, highlighting the opportunities this collaboration presented for French industries. He underscored that this strategic partnership would help ensure the sustainability of support for Ukraine in the face of an ongoing conflict.
